COMMITTEE FOR ADMISSIONS SUPERVISION COMMITTEE

The meeting of the Admissions Supervision Committee was held in Takniki Sikhya Bhawan, Sector 36 at 6.00 P.M. on 29/6/2004 in regard to the representation filed by the Christian Medical College and Christian Dental College, Ludhiana.. It was attended by the following members:-

2. The matter was deliberated again on 30/6/2004 in the meeting of Admissions Committee and it was decided that guidelines be issued to the Christian institutions in regard to the admission procedure alongwith the judgment.

3. The Hon’ble Chairman Mr. Justice G.R. Majithia (Retd.) announced the judgment on 1/7/2004 permitting the Christian Medical College and Christian Dental College, Ludhiana to conduct their own entrance test for filling up the minority quota seats.

4. The following directions and guidelines are being issued to the Christian institutions for conduct of the test and admissions in the two colleges.

(i) The Christian institutions can hold an entrance test under the guidelines and directions of the Committee for 50% minority quota given to the institution by the government.

(ii) The admissions in minority quota will be strictly on the basis of inter se merit of the students belonging to Christian community and there would be no sub-reservation for the minority quota as decided by the Supreme Court in its order dated 14/8/2003 in the case of Islamic Academy of Education Vs. State of Karnataka. The institutions would conduct the test and prepare a merit list of the students belonging to the minority Christian community. The merit list would be submitted to the Committee and after approval from it will be published by the institutions. The admissions shall be made by the two colleges only after the approval of the merit list by the Committee.

(iii) The Admission Committee and has no objection if NRI quota is not availed. It can be transferred to minority quota and filled up on the basis of merit.

(iv) The Committee will pass a separate order in regard to distribution of seats between government quota and minority quota seats.

It was decided that these directions be issued to two colleges in continuation of the judgment dated 1/7/2004.
