PRESS RELEASE
Subject: Admissions in GNM and ANM Courses in the State of Punjab.

The Department of Medical Education & Research vide its Notification
dated 5/7/2004 has allowed admissions in 60 institutions for General Nursing
Midwifery(GNM) Course and 26 institutions for Auxiliary Nursing Midwife(ANM)
Course. The salient points of this Notification are:
(a) The seats in existing institutions which have not constructed their
own building and are operating from rented buildings have been reduced
by 5/10/15 depending upon delay in construction of own building by 1/2/3
or more years.
(b) No existing institutions shall be allowed to make admissions in 2005-2006
unless it has its own building. Similarly no fresh institute would be
allowed to come up in 2004-2005 unless it has its own building.
(c ) The following institutions have been de-recognised for the year 2004-2005
for GNM Course:
(1) Anand School of Nursing, Amritsar
(2) Guru Gobind Singh Training Institute, Amritsar
(3) Guru Nanak Nursing Training Institute, Jalandhar
For ANM Course:
(1) Dr.Sham Lal Thapar Nursing School, Moga
(2) Baba Farid Institute, Kot Kapura.
(d) The annual fee for GNM Course would be Rs.35,000/- and fee for the
entire 1 ½ year ANM Course would be Rs.25,000/-.
(e) The Room rent would be Rs.1000/- per month and mess charges would
be as per actual expenditure.
(f) The students and parents are requested to go through the list of recognised/approved
institutes as given in the Notification before seeking admissions.
