PRESS RELEASE
Subject:- Admissions in Christian Medical College, Ludhiana & Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences, Amritsar and fee fixation.
The Fee Fixation Committee and Admissions Supervision Committee for the State of Punjab has passed three important orders:-
1. The Admissions Supervision Committee in its order dated 22/7/2004 has rejected the applications of Christian Medical College and Christian Dental College, Ludhiana for increase in minority quota seats from 50% to 76%, for allowing them to fill up all the 100% seats including government quota seats from their own test and for permitting them to have sub reservations within the minority community for 27 different churches. As a result the CMC Ludhiana will have minority quota of only 50% and it can fill up only the minority quota seats from its own entrance test. The remaining 50% government quota seats shall be filled up by the university on the basis of PMET conducted by it. The institution will have to fill up the minority quota seats strictly on the basis of inter se merit of the Christian students and there can not be any sub reservation for various churches.
2. The Admissions Supervision Committee in its other order dated 21/7/2004 has rejected the applications of Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences, Amristar for allowing sub reservations within the 50% minority quota for various categories like faculty quota etc. As a result the Sri Guru Ram Dass Institutions will fill up the minority quota strictly on the basis of inter se merit of the students belonging to Sikh community. All the 8 NRI seats will also be provided with the minority community quota. The remaining 50% government quota seats shall be filled up by the university. The minority status of these institutions has been withdrawn perspectively i.e w.e.f. the next year 2005-06. For the current year they will have minority status and will also have 50% minority quota seats.
3. The Fee Fixation Committee vide its order dated 17/7/2004 has ordered that for the students admitted in the year 2003-04 the provisional fee structure as provided for the year 2004-05 would be applicable. The students admitted in the year 2003-04 had paid Rs. 1.50 lacs, Rs. 1.00 lacs and Rs. 50,000/- for MBBS,BDS, BAMS, BHMS courses as against the fee of Rs. 75,000/-, Rs. 55,000/- and Rs. 35,000/- for the year 2004-05. The fee for the students admitted in the year 2003-04 has therefore been reduced and they will be required to pay the reduced fee in the second year of their course i.e. 2004-05. The excess fee deposited by them for the year 2003-04 would also be adjusted at the time of deposit of fee for the year 2004-05. Secondly they can not charge more than Rs.5,000/- for security and Rs.10,000/- per year per room. No kind of development/miscellaneous charges can be recovered from the students. The committee has ordered that if any amount in excess of this has been charged, it be refunded forthwith.
