PUBLIC NOTICE

SUBJECT:-    ADMISSIONS IN PRIVATE MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS IN PUNJAB 2004-05.

                   The  Department wishes to bring the following three decisions of the  Fee Fixation Committee and Admissions Supervision Committee headed by Mr. Justice G.R. Majithia (Retd.) in regards to medical institutions for the year 2004-05 to the knowledge of students and the general public.

1.         Christian Medical and Dental Colleges, Ludhiana -  The Committee  vide its order dated 21/7/2004 has endorsed the decision of the Punjab Government for fixing the percentage of minority quota and government quota seats in the ratio of 50:50.  The Committee has further ordered that these institutions can fill up only the minority quota on the basis of their entrance test scheduled for 25/7/2004.  The 50% government quota seats shall be filled up by the Baba Farid University on the basis of PMET being conducted by them on 1/8/2004.  The minority quota seats can be filled up by the institutions strictly on the basis of inter se merit of the students and there would no kind of subreservation/sub quota within the minority quota seats.

2.         Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical & Dental Institutes-  The Committee vide its decision dated 15/7/2004 has rejected the contention of these institutions for having sub reservation/sub quota within the 50% minority quota seats.  As a result the minority quota seats shall be filled up strictly on the basis of inter se merit of the students belonging to Sikh community.  The 15% NRI quota seats shall also be part of the minority quota seats.  The Committee has quashed the government notification dated 3/4/2001 declaring these two institutions as minority institutions.  However this decision would be applicable w.e.f. next academic year 2005-06 and it will not affect the admissions in the current year 2004-05.

3.         Fees- The Committee vide its order dated 1/7/2004 had endorsed the provisional fees fixed by the government in its notification dated 17/6/2004 - Rs. 75,000/- for MBBS, Rs. 55,000/- for BDS, and Rs. 35,000/- for BAMS/BHMS/B.Sc. (Nursing) for the admissions in the academic year 2004-05.  The Committee vide its order dated 17/7/2004 has also made the above mentioned fee structure applicable for the students admitted in the year 2003-04.  The fee deposited by them in the year 2003-04 was to the tune of Rs. 1.50 lacs for MBBS, Rs. 1.00 lac for BDS,  Rs. 50,000/- for BAMS/BHMS/ and Rs. 35,000/- for B.Sc. (Nursing).  The excess fee would be adjusted by the medical institutions while receiving the fee from these students for the second year of their study i.e. 2004-05.  The Committee has also ordered that security deposit of not more than 5,000/- and hostel charges of not more than 12,000/- per year can be charged.  The charging of development/amalgamated /miscellaneous funds has been completely prohibited.  If any excess amount has been charged from the students in the year 2003-04 that amounts is liable to be refunded forthwith.  The Committee has also made it clear that fee structure as mentioned above would be applicable to the students admitted against management/minority quota seats as well as government quota seats.
